Position Details
The Berlin Area School District is searching for a passionate and talented paraprofessional at Berlin High School. Most paraprofessionals work with students with one or more disabilities, including but not limited to intellectual, learning, speech/language, emotional/behavioral, physical, health-related, and autism. This position assists with activities focused on learning and support based on the individual needs of students with disabilities and may assist students in other learning environments (i.e., resource hour, lunch room, etc.).
Berlin High School has a student body of approximately 415 students and has a breadth of opportunity with over 130 different course offerings to choose from in multiple disciplines, including career and technical education, fine arts, sciences, mathematics, languages, and college preparatory courses. Berlin High School offers the opportunity for students to earn over 70 university and technical school credits while in high school, in addition to Advanced Placement (AP) offerings. We believe that the high school experience extends outside the classroom, and with over 40 extracurricular clubs, groups, and teams, our students have ample opportunity to be involved.
Berlin High School is one of three schools that make up the Berlin Area School District. Clay Lamberton Elementary (4K-5), Berlin Middle School (6-8), and Berlin High School sit on the same campus and serve as a hub of activity for the greater Berlin community. The Berlin Area School District comprises 14 municipalities, with the City of Berlin at the center. Berlin is a rural community with a population of 5,500 located approximately 20 minutes west of Oshkosh and 10 minutes north of Green Lake. The Fox River runs through the center of the historic Victorian downtown. Agriculture, health services, light industry, and retail shops comprise Berlin’s economy.
The ideal candidate would be effective in the following areas:

Carrying out, independently, instructional and behavioral plans for students developed by professional staff.

Working cooperatively in a variety of settings as a team member with all staff members.

Working with children with a wide variety of abilities, including intellectual, physical, and emotionally challenging behaviors.

Demonstrating ethical conduct and maintaining the strictest confidence concerning personnel, students, and operational concerns of the organization.

Assisting students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs (diapering), and personal hygiene.

Assuming responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.

Helping supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes the lunchroom, assisting students to and from transportation, and outside activities.

Other duties as assigned (may include transportation).
Requirements:

Possess or be able to obtain a Wisconsin Special Education Aide License.

Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. or 150 lbs. in a two-person lift.

Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Ability to demonstrate patience, flexibility, strong communication skills, and a positive attitude.

Desire to assist student(s) with special needs in a learning environment.
Salary, benefits, and length of contract: This position works 181 days (school year only). Pay is based on experience but is not less than $15.73/hour. We also offer a competitive benefits package.
