The School District of Fort Atkinson is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, and energetic professional to serve as the Administrative Assistant to the Principal and Financial Bookkeeper at Fort Atkinson High School. This dual-role position provides confidential, high-level administrative support to the principal while managing the high school’s building budget, student activity accounts, and financial procedures.As the literal and figurative central person of the high school office, this individual must foster an inclusive, high-performing culture of growth and community for our approximately 800 students, their families, and our staff.

 
Job Responsibilities

Administrative & Principal Support

  • Provide confidential, skilled, and highly efficient secretarial services to support the High School Principal and administrative team.
  • Manage the principal’s calendar, coordinate building-wide meetings, and supports the principal in the planning of school events.
  • Produce high-quality, professionally formatted correspondence, school-wide communications, and web/social media updates.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for families, students, and stakeholders, responding empathetically and effectively to inquiries.

Financial Bookkeeping

  • Maintain a strong background in accounting and financial procedures to support the principal in managing the high school’s operational budget.
  • Process purchase orders, monitor expenditures, and ensure all building-level financial transactions align with district policies.
  • Oversee and audit student activity accounts, athletic funds, and fundraising financials.
  • Utilize specialized district accounting software to generate monthly financial reports for the principal and district office.

Qualifications & Skills

Required Core Skills

  • High School Diploma
  • Financial Acumen: Strong background in accounting, bookkeeping, and budget monitoring. Experience with school-based accounting software is highly desired.
  • Technical Proficiency: Highly skilled in computer applications including spreadsheets (Excel/Sheets), word processing, presentation software, and web page or social media tools. Willingness to master district-specific software.
  • Communication Excellence: Outstanding written and verbal grammar skills, with a sharp eye for editing and formatting professional correspondence.
  • Organization & Autonomy: Strong initiative to recognize necessary tasks and complete them with minimal supervision. Exceptional ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
  • Interpersonal & Cultural Savvy: Excellent listening skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, staff, and community members.
