St. Francis Xavier Catholic Schools is seeking an Elementary Counselor for a 1 year contract. The School Counselor will provide school counseling services to students by collaborating with students, and administrators and providing support resources to staff. This individual is highly motivated and dedicated to the continuous improvement of student learning and achievement. 

Responsibilities:

  • Promotes and implements the Wisconsin Comprehensive School Counseling Model with the disposition to handle responsive services of the student. 
  • Provides information and support to staff regarding SEL initiatives and the mental health framework.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
  • Uses intervention strategies for students in various situations.
  • Develops relationships and connections with community resources.
  • Implements classroom guidance lessons throughout the school year.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with students and parents/guardians concerning the school environment through conferences, phone calls and email. 
  • Safeguard confidential records and inquires in a professional manner.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan instructional goals, objectives, and teaching strategies
  • Supervise students during transitions between classes, lunch periods and special events as needed. Ensuring the health and safety of students, equipment and facilities by implementing appropriate precautions
  • Represent Xavier Catholic Schools professionally in interactions with stakeholders, including parents, community members, staff and students

Education and Experience:

  • Masters degree (M.A.) in school-based/guidance counseling or related field from four-year college or university, or currently pursuing their Masters degree in Counseling. 
  • Counseling experience in a school setting is beneficial, but not required.
  • Experience in dealing with situations relative to adolescent physical, social and temperamental issues.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong commitment to student-centered learning and academic excellence in a Catholic School System
  • Proficient in using technology including hardware, software and applications
  • Ability to communicate effectively with  all levels of administration
  • Demonstrates teamwork skills with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledgeable in effective behavior management techniques
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and maintaining confidentiality
  • Submission to a legal background check
  • Willingness to participate in Foundational Catechetical Certification (FCC)
