Are you looking to join a school district that values the role leadership and facilities can play in meeting a district's mission that all students can learn at high levels?  Are you looking to work with colleagues who support one another in a positive and collaborative setting?  Then the Northland Pines School District is what you are looking for!  The Northland Pines School District is looking for a passionate and talented leader to oversee the district's buildings and grounds.  This leadership position is responsible for the comprehensive planning, operation, maintenance, and safety of all district facilities, grounds, and physical assets across multiple campuses. The ideal candidate will balance hands-on technical oversight with strategic vision, particularly regarding the district’s award-winning energy efficiency initiatives, and preventative maintenance practices while still maintaining an efficient budget.  The Director is responsible for leading and supervising a staff that carries out the operations, maintenance, and cleaning for both inside and outside of the disrict's three campuses.  
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in Facility Managment, Engineering, or equivilant experience or certifications
  • 3 Years or more experince in Facilities and Maintenance leadership or related fields
  • Experience in management of facililties both inside and outside
  • Experience working with a budget with short and long term planning
  • Proven success managing a team
  • Strong communication skills
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development 
  • Experience working with other organizations to lead to better outcomes
  • Experience or willingness to learn about alternative energy 
 
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Operations & Facilities Management

  • Oversee the daily maintenance, cleanliness, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, electrical, and structural systems of all district buildings.

  • Ensure all campus grounds, athletic fields, parking lots, and walkways are impeccably maintained, including managing seasonal demands like snow removal.

  • Manage, schedule, and evaluate custodial and maintenance personnel, fostering a collaborative, efficient, and positive team environment.

2. Sustainability & Energy Management

  • Manage and optimize the district’s green energy infrastructure, including existing solar power initiatives and sustainable facility practices.

  • Coordinate with external resource partners (such as Focus on Energy) to identify, secure, and implement energy-efficient technologies and financial incentives.

  • Promote building management best practices that lower operational costs while maintaining an ideal learning environment.

3. Capital Project Planning & Budgeting

  • Formulate and manage the annual Buildings and Grounds operating budget.

  • Develop, update, and execute a comprehensive Long-Range Capital Improvement and Preventative Maintenance Plan.

  • Prepare specifications for major maintenance or construction projects, manage bidding processes, and oversee contracted services to ensure high-quality compliance.

4. Safety, Compliance, & Emergency Response

  • Ensure district compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations (including OSHA, EPA, and building codes).

  • Act as the point of contact for district-wide facility security, fire protection, and environmental testing (e.g., air and water quality).

  • Serve as the primary responder for facility-related emergencies outside of normal school hours.
