The Northland Pines School District is what you are looking for! We are seeking a dedicated and collaborative Cross-Categorical Special Education Teacher to serve students at the high school level (grades 9-12).
This position will support students through a combination of co-teaching in either ELA or mathematics, as well as providing pull-out, small group, and individualized instruction based on student needs. The High School Cross-Categorical Special Education Teacher will implement evidence-based practices to support students with disabilities in accessing, engaging in, and progressing within the general education curriculum. This work will focus on supporting progress toward grade-level academic standards, as well as functional skills and postsecondary readiness.
This role involves close collaboration with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to ensure individualized supports are effectively designed and delivered, maximizing student success in inclusive settings.
Coaching and activity positions are also available across the District.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong collaborative skills, with experience working closely with general education teachers in co-taught classroom settings
- Experience supporting students with a wide range of disability-related needs, including autism, emotional-behavioral regulation, and specific learning disabilities
- Knowledge of inclusive practices and co-teaching models at the secondary level
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) in alignment with Wisconsin’s 5-Step IEP process to support students’ academic and functional needs
- Provide specially designed instruction through co-teaching, as well as in pull-out, small group, and individualized settings using evidence-based strategies
- Collaborate with general education teachers to plan and deliver instruction aligned to grade-level standards
- Work closely with related service providers and families to ensure alignment of supports and meaningful progress toward IEP goals
- Implement inclusive practices, including co-teaching, collaborative planning, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
- Use data to inform instruction, monitor progress, and adjust supports
- Implement positive behavior supports and strategies to promote self-regulation and engagement
- Support students in developing skills related to independence, self-advocacy, and postsecondary readiness
