The School District of Fort Atkinson is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and student-centered School Nurse to support the health, safety, and success of our learners. This role is more than clinical care—it is a vital connection between health and education, ensuring every student is ready to learn and thrive. As a key member of our student services team, you will lead health initiatives, provide direct care, and collaborate with families, staff, and community partners to remove health-related barriers to learning.
What You’ll Do
Student Care & Health Services
- Provide direct nursing care including assessment, intervention, and follow-up
- Respond to health emergencies and coordinate with emergency services
- Administer medications and treatments per medical orders and district policy
- Conduct health screenings and support communicable disease prevention efforts
- Develop and manage Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs), Emergency Care Plans (ECPs), and 504 accommodations
- Maintain accurate, confidential student health records in compliance with HIPAA/FERPA
- Ensure adherence to DPI, DHS, IDEA, and other applicable regulations
- Partner with educators, administrators, families, and healthcare providers to support student success
- Participate in IEP and 504 meetings, advocating for student health needs
- Serve as a health resource for staff, students, and families through education and guidance
- Build relationships with community agencies to ensure continuity of care
- Support or lead district health services programming and initiatives
- Promote a culture of wellness for students and staff
- Contribute to ongoing improvement of school health practices
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a professional who combines clinical expertise with empathy, strong communication, and a commitment to student-centered care.Required Qualifications- Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN)
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- DPI School Nurse Certification (or eligibility)
- Experience in school nursing, pediatric, or community health
- Knowledge of special education, chronic health conditions, and trauma-informed practices
- Demonstrated ability to build strong, collaborative relationships
