JOB SUMMARY:
Uses knowledge, education and experience to help reduce or eliminate students’ speech and hearing impediments that interfere with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from the district’s educational program.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
• Provides high quality direct speech-language therapy services to students according to students’ IEPs/504 plans.
• Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
• Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing and language impairments, and social communication.
• Provides screening to identify speech impaired children at regular intervals and at specified levels.
• Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
• Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students’ need and correct existing speech or language impairments.
• Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy with suggestions for the student’s daily activities.
• Provides information, support and counseling to student’s families when appropriate.
• Keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
• Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists and related services.
• Compiles case history data on those cases where additional family history, health history, early developmental history, and environmental history are deemed appropriate.
• Serves on student service teams such as IEPs, SST or 504 teams.
• Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment, supplies, or assistive devices.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities.
• Complies with all Medicaid requirements for school-based claiming, including obtaining written Medicaid consent from parents of all students served, and timely filing of claims that meet Medicaid standards.
• Performs all other duties as assigned by Administration.

• Systematically gathers, analyzes, and uses relevant data to measure student progress, guide instructional content and delivery methods, and provide timely feedback to students, parents, and stakeholders.

• Uses resources, routines, and procedures to provide a respectful, safe, positive, student-centered environment that is conducive to student engagement and learning.
6. Professionalism
• Demonstrates behavior consistent with legal, ethical, and professional standards, contributes to the profession, and engages in professional growth that results in improved student learning.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Valid Speech and Language Pathology License from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI).
• Valid License in Speech Pathology from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS).
• Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in the field of Speech Pathology.
