The position requires availability during the following hours: approximately 6:10- 8:55, 11:30-1:00 and 2:15-4:10
 
The Special Education Transportation Aide assists the bus driver in providing safe transportation for all students. The position directly supports special needs students by ensuring their safety during boarding, loading, and unloading the school bus. The position also helps to maintain student behavior expectations on the bus at all times, serves as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, and an effective work ethic. Protects the confidentiality of records and information.
• Assists in providing safe transportation to help students enjoy the complete educational program of the school district.
• Assists young and disabled students in boarding and departing the bus.
• Cares for the needs of disabled students’ IEP.
• Secures harness and/or seat belts and lifts children when necessary.
• Responsible for the safety and well-being of all students and staff on the bus.
• Assists bus driver in supervising all student activity and behavior. Assists bus drivers and classroom teachers in resolving student-related issues.
• Communicates and works effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district, community, and students.
• Maintains a daily log of significant events that happen during the transportation of students.
• Attends trainings, meetings and In-service as directed.
• Implements and follows all district health and safety policies.
• Be aware of and understand Cultural Competence and Non-Discrimination practices.
• All other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or Superintendent.
 
Bus Transportation Paraprofessionals work during the school year for about nine months, beginning in late August and continuing through the first week of June. This position may be eligible for benefits. 
 
Screening and interviewing of applicants will begin immediately, and the position will remain open until a qualified candidate is found.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Education, license and/or experience: • Work experience in related field preferred.
• The Special Education Teacher Assistant must possess a Special Education Aide License issued by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) or obtain one upon hire.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Requires basic clerical skills and knowledge of office practices and procedures that involve the operation of standard office equipment such as phone system, computer, copier, and associated equipment or communication devices that can be learned on the job within several months.
