Full Time

At Project RISE, located within Waller Elementary, RISE staff strive to provide their students with the opportunity to “Reach Independence through Support & Education.” The team is seeking an experienced special educator to join the program. The right fit person for this role brings a passion for supporting students with autism, deep experience in comprehensive and innovative best practice and pedagogy, and a high level of integrity and love for collaboration.

Job Summary

This position is for a special education teacher in a self-contained autism program. This teacher would join a team that includes a special education teacher, occupational therapist, speech pathologist, and paraprofessionals focused on providing programming through the SCERTS framework. 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

  • Valid teacher license for position as established by Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction

  • Knowledge of principles, practices and methodology of effective teaching of students with disabilities.

  • Knowledge of procedural requirements required by Federal and State law with regard to the education of students with disabilities

  • Experience working with young students diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder is required

  • Knowledge of relevant technology to assist in individualized instruction

  • Ability to work productively in a team and as a self-starting individual

  • Ability to provide leadership 

  • Ability to effectively analyze needs and problems objectively

  • Ability to deliver and articulate oral presentations and written reports

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, administration and the general public

  • Ability to work on a regular and punctual basis

  • Ability to regularly stand, sit, walk

  • Occasionally lift, move and support up to 50 pounds and lift up to an adult size body weight with two to three person lift (estimated 50 pounds of force)

  • Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person to provide accurate information and assistance

  • Ability to interact with students who have difficulty controlling physical behavior

  • Able to complete job duties in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm

  • Able to maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and detail
