Job Summary

The Learning Services Specialist will provide support to students at Xavier Middle School with unique learning needs, develop accommodation plans, work collaboratively with classroom teachers, administration, and staff to support students and their families.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop, oversee, and implement instructional accommodation plans to support the individual needs of students.

  • Provide intervention and support as stated in instructional accommodation plans, including one-on-one and small-group instruction. 

  • Specialization/training in literacy and/or math intervention preferred (i.e., Add+Vantage Math Recovery)

  • Provide a student-centered learning atmosphere that encourages and challenges student development spiritually, academically, physically, emotionally, and socially.

  • Regularly collaborate with classroom teachers regarding instructional methods and materials that will help meet the specific needs of students.

  • Assist teachers in adapting classroom work to address the individual needs of Learning Services students.

  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents and teachers in order to recommend referral options for students to identify potential area(s) of impairment, encouraging parent and community involvement.

  • Communicate with qualified professionals who have conducted diagnostic evaluations and review diagnostic evaluation reports. Develop or adjust and maintain accurate instructional accommodation plans, and share the updated plans with parents, classroom teachers, and administration. 

  • Obtain appropriate exchange of information forms to enable effective communication among the school, the family, and professionals outside of the school.

  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and exhibit professionalism within communication regarding specific student learning needs.

  • Coordinate the completion of evaluation and referral documents and forward them to appropriate professionals and agencies in a timely manner.

  • Monitor the progress of students with Learning Service needs, collect feedback from teachers on a regular basis, and provide support for Learning Services students. Share progress with necessary stakeholders.

  • Compile and complete quarterly reports for progress monitoring 

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to further serve the needs of Learning Services students and families and to support the classroom teachers. 

  • Assist with making determinations about whether the school can reasonably meet a particular student's needs.

  • Participate in a variety of meetings (e.g. teacher/parent meetings, data meetings, special education evaluation meetings) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and optimize student learning.

  • Cooperate with the principal in fulfilling professional responsibilities throughout the school
