The Diesel Mechanic and CDL Driver Trainer performs essential maintenance, diagnostic, and repair work on the district's fleet of vehicles, primarily diesel-powered school buses. This is a dual-role position that also includes responsibility for training and supporting new and existing CDL drivers, and driving bus routes/trips as needed to ensure continuous operational efficiency.

General Responsibilities:
- Diagnose malfunctions; repair or replace worn and defective parts, perform repair work, and correct malfunctions
- Know or learn the Trans 300 requirements to keep buses in compliance.
- Perform daily maintenance on vehicles.
- Assist in the daily operations of the bus garage.
- Maintain inventory of necessary parts
- Assist in training bus drivers.
- Other duties as required or requested by the Transportation Supervisor.

Terms of Employment:
- Benefits: This position is eligible for benefits, paid leave, and paid holidays.
- Hours: 8:15 am - 4:45 pm Monday-Friday, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch
- 260 Day Contract (Year-Around)
- Salary: $24.19 to $30.00 (Based on Experience & Certification) All employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing to meet the requirements of the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Qualifications:
- A High School Diploma AND Vocation training in Diesel Engine Repair Certification, or 5 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic, or are currently enrolled in a Diesel Engine Education Program with plans to complete within the next 6-9 months.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
- Ability to obtain a CDL License with a School Bus and Passenger Endorsement within 60 days of hire, and be willing to drive a bus route/trip, when needed
- Must supply their own tools needed to complete the work
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment with a minimum of 75#.
