The Fall River School District is looking to fill our open position for Head Football Coach at the High School level. Fall River is in a coop with Rio for all of our football programs from 4th- High School. Together, we are looking for a coach who is responsible for the overall leadership, organization, and administration of our school’s football program. This individual will establish a positive team culture that promotes athletic achievement, academic success, sportsmanship, and character development while ensuring compliance with all school, district, and state athletic association regulations.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Leadership

  • Provide leadership and direction for all aspects of the football program, including varsity, junior varsity, and feeder levels where applicable

  • Establish and communicate a clear vision, goals, and expectations for the football program

  • Hire, supervise, evaluate, and mentor assistant coaches

Coaching & Player Development

  • Plan and conduct effective practices focused on skill development, strategy, conditioning, and safety

  • Develop offensive, defensive, and special teams philosophies and game plans

  • Make final decisions regarding player positions, playing time, and team selection

  • Promote physical, mental, and emotional development of student-athletes

Student-Athlete Support

  • Monitor academic eligibility and encourage academic excellence

  • Serve as a mentor and role model, emphasizing discipline, respect, and accountability

  • Communicate regularly with student-athletes and parents regarding expectations and progress

Program Administration

  • Ensure compliance with school policies and state athletic association rules

  • Manage program budgets, equipment inventory, and uniforms

  • Coordinate schedules for practices, games, transportation, and facilities

  • Oversee safety protocols, injury management, and return-to-play procedures

Community & School Relations

  • Represent the school positively at athletic events, meetings, and community functions

  • Collaborate with athletic directors, administrators, teachers, and support staff

  • Promote community involvement and positive public relations for the football program

  • Work with Middle School and Youth coaches to streamline program vision
 

Work Schedule

  • Seasonal position with extensive after-school, evening, & weekend commitments

  • Summer Contact Days/Camps

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred)

  • Previous head or assistant coaching experience at the high school level (head coaching experience preferred)

  • Strong knowledge of football rules, strategy, and player safety

  • Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills

  • Ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes

  • CPR/First Aid and concussion training certification (or willingness to obtain)

  • Successful completion of background checks as required by the district

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching certification or current employment within the school district(s)

  • Experience managing a complete athletic program or staff

  • Knowledge of state athletic association regulations
