Position Overview
Pecatonica High School is seeking a committed, enthusiastic, and student-centered Junior Varsity Head Football Coach to lead the development of our JV football team within the high school football program. The JV Head Coach plays a key role in teaching fundamentals, developing young players, and maintaining the values and systems established by the varsity staff. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong teaching ability, positive leadership, and a deep commitment to building a cohesive, competitive, and character-driven football experience for student-athletes that is aligned with and part of the Varsity Football Program.
Primary Responsibilities
Leadership and Program Alignment

Support and uphold the vision, philosophy, and standards of the Head Varsity Football Coach and the Pecatonica/Argyle football program.

Serve as a role model for student-athletes by demonstrating professionalism, respect, and integrity.

Promote teamwork, discipline, and accountability both on and off the field.

Work collaboratively with football coaching staff to ensure program-wide consistency in terminology, technique, and culture.
Player Development and Instruction

Assigned one defensive and one offensive individual football position to coach.

Teach and reinforce football fundamentals, position techniques, and game understanding.

Focus on player growth and skill development, preparing athletes for varsity-level competition.

Provide individualized instruction and feedback to help each athlete reach their potential.

Promote academic responsibility, sportsmanship, and leadership among all JV players.

Ensure a positive, safe, and inclusive team environment for all participants.
Game and Practice Management

Plan and conduct structured, efficient JV practices that align with varsity schemes and objectives that align with the Varsity Football Program.

Develop and implement weekly game plans in coordination with football staff.

Manage JV game operations, including play-calling, player rotations, and in-game adjustments.

Provide accurate post-game evaluations and communicate player progress to the Head Coach.
Staff Collaboration and Communication

Work closely with the Head Coach, coordinators, and other assistant coaches to ensure consistent program direction.

Participate in staff meetings, film sessions, and professional development opportunities.

Assist varsity staff during practices and games when requested.

Communicate regularly with players, parents, and administrators in a respectful, professional manner.
Student-Athlete Expectations

Encourage high academic standards and personal responsibility.

Promote character, sportsmanship, and respect for teammates, opponents, and officials.

Support the school’s philosophy of multi-sport participation and well-rounded student involvement.

Address behavioral and disciplinary issues in accordance with program and school policies.
Football Operations and Logistics

Help manage equipment distribution, care, and inventory.

Coordinate with the Varsity Head Coach on scheduling, transportation, and facility usage.

Assist in maintaining accurate rosters, eligibility, and attendance records.

Support program fundraising and community activities as needed.
Integrity and Character

Model honesty, reliability, and ethical conduct at all times.

Represent Pecatonica and Argyle High Schools and the football program with professionalism in all community interactions.

Follow all district, conference, and WIAA rules and regulations.

Emphasize player safety, proper conduct, and sportsmanship in all team activities.
In-Season Expectations
-
Lead practices and games under the direction of the Head Coach.

Support the varsity program on game nights as assigned (sideline duties, film, or logistics).
-
Evaluate player performance and provide feedback for improvement and advancement.

Maintain open communication with the Head Coach regarding team needs, issues, and progress.
Off-Season Expectations

Assist in off-season strength and conditioning sessions and player development programs.

Participate in summer contact days, camps, and clinics as directed by the Head Coach.

Help identify and mentor younger athletes within the district’s youth programs.

Continue professional growth through coaching clinics and ongoing education.
Qualifications
-
Prior football coaching experience required; high school experience preferred.

Must meet all WIAA and district coaching certification requirements.

Strong teaching, communication, and leadership skills.

Ability to motivate and develop student-athletes while maintaining high expectations.

Commitment to academic achievement, player safety, and program integrity.
