JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Full Time Substitute SPED Teacher - Building Substitute
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
WAGE: $225 per day
TERM/SCHEDULE: 10 months
JOB SUMMARY
The Manitowoc Public School District is seeking full time SPED substitute teachers for the 2025-2026 School Year! Our full time SPED subs must be flexible and willing to work in any grade level/subject area. This position is specifically created to support our SPED Department. Your assignments will be working specifically with Special Education students. They must thoroughly enjoy working with students and building relationships with students and staff of the MPSD. They will report to the school they are assigned to, but may be assigned a different building should the building assigned not have a need for a teacher sub. We are asking that our full time substitute teachers attend staff development days and work the days that school is in session (September - June). At a minimum the sub must hold a valid short-term substitute teaching license. The success of the Substitute teacher in carrying on the continuing educational process in the Manitowoc Public School District depends primarily upon the principal, the regular teacher, and above all, upon the individual Substitute teacher. When all cooperate to achieve and develop continuity, an effective school program for all students will be maintained.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Follow Absence Management (Frontline) procedures and instructions. Please check lesson plans and information as to how the substitute teacher should dress specifically for the day; i.e.: field trip, colors day, other special dress days, outdoor recess duty and so on.

Report to the office upon arrival at the building and be present at the school in accord with the teacher hours.

Find the yellow Substitute teacher folder on the desk.

Follow plans for classroom activities and procedures left by the regular teacher as closely as possible.

Assume the duties of the regular teacher, which may include corridor or study hall supervision, collection of monies, lunch period supervision, playground supervision, and securing supplies.

Seek guidance from the office in any unusual situation and notify them immediately in the event of an accident, severe problem, or serious disturbance.

Be fair, impartial, considerate and firm with all students.

Approach students with a smile, even if it is to intervene because the student is not acting appropriately.

Fill out the Substitute teacher report and leave it for the teacher.

Be responsible for every student in the room during a fire drill, tornado drill, or any other emergency.

Leave students’ written work corrected and have the classroom in order at the end of the day.

Treat any information about the school and its students as confidential.

Know where the Crisis Plan Guide is located in the classroom.

There may be times when you will be asked to help in another area during the classroom teacher’s regularly scheduled period off.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

CREDENTIALS:
Valid Wisconsin license authorizing service in grade levels and areas assigned. Background with English or reading is preferred.
EDUCATION:
Associates Degree with a Substitute Teaching License
PERSONAL QUALITIES:
Appearance, grooming and personality which establish a desirable example for students. Ability to meet District standards for physical and mental health. Recommendations from student teaching supervisors and other professionals who have observed the characteristics, scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the teacher that meet District’s standards for hiring.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
