Inspire, Innovate, and Empower Students in Alternative Education!

Are you passionate about meeting students where they are and guiding them toward success? We are looking for a dedicated Alternative Education Teacher to join our team at the middle/high school level. In this role, you will create a supportive, adaptive, and engaging learning environment for students who thrive outside the traditional classroom model.

While a Special Education licensure is preferred, we welcome applications from individuals with licensure in other areas who are committed to innovative practices and ensuring all students thrive.

Sauk County Adolescent Needs (SCAN) is an alternative education program. CESA 5 Alternative Education programs serve as placement options for students who have not found success in their resident districts.  Instruction in the programs focuses on each child’s emotional, social, and behavioral skill sets while working collaboratively with the student’s resident district to maintain academic standing.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging instruction using an approved curriculum tailored to the unique needs of students in an alternative education setting.

  • Develop and adapt lesson plans to foster individualized learning.

  • Monitor and document student progress through data collection and observations.

  • Address student behaviors effectively and liaise with families, Lead Teachers, and county agencies to ensure the best outcomes.

  • Safely transport students to and from home in an agency vehicle, following established procedures.

  • Provide direct support and interventions to students as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Special Education licensure (or willingness to pursue certification) strongly preferred.

  • Experience working with students in alternative education or special education settings.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate an agency vehicle.

  • Adaptability, creativity, and a passion for working in a team-focused, student-centered environment.

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a collaborative and innovative team committed to student success in nontraditional settings.
  • Access opportunities for professional growth and meaningful impact.
  • Contribute to transformative education experiences that empower students and families.
