The Wauwatosa School District seeks a Long-term Substitute Special Education Assistant/Aide at Wauwatosa School District.
Position Title: Long-term Substitute Special Education Aide/Assistant
Department/Location: Wauwatosa School District/Next Steps (18-21 Transition Program)
Job Classification: Educational Assistant (Non-Exempt)
Reports to: Coordinator of Next Steps
Supervises: N.A.
Position Summary: The Special Education Assistant substitute works with students under the supervision of certified teachers to support and services students with disabilities throughout the school day. Duties include providing academic instruction, behavioral supports, supervision, daily living and delegated nursing tasks to students with disabilities.
Anticipated Start Date: November 18, 2024
Anticipated Hours: 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM

Essential Job Functions:
- Provides support and delivers services to students with disabilities throughout the school day to ensure academic growth, positive social engagement, and access to the school environment
- Assists students with academic work in general education classrooms and small group settings
- Under the supervision of assigned teacher, implements instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts
- Provides physical assistance to students with mobility challenges
- Works collaboratively with special education team
- Delivers direct instructional services, academic supports, and behavioral supports described in IEP’s of students with disabilities
- Assists classroom teacher in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks to support academic and social success of students
- Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce academic and behavioral goals
- Supports an inclusive educational environment for all students
- Assists special education students requiring daily care (e.g., toileting, diapering, feeding, delegated nursing tasks, etc.)
- Monitors students within a variety of school environments (e.g., cafeteria, bus stop, classroom, restroom, field trips, public transportation, assemblies, kitchen, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment
- Serves as role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
- Complies with the following requirement: The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District
- Performs other duties as may be assigned
