CESA 5 is seeking a dedicated, organized, and caring teacher to work with students in an alternative education program beginning in the 2024-25 school year.
Waupaca County Alternative Program (WCAP) is an alternative learning environment for students who have not found success in their home districts.
Candidates with experience working in Alternative Education/Special Education are highly preferred. DPI teaching license required: any area of special education; general education teachers considered if licensed grades 5-12.
A valid WI driver's license with a clean driving record is required; experience working with students with behavioral challenges is preferred.
Job Summary:
The Alternative Program Teacher serves as a classroom teacher, provides students with transportation as required, supervises students, and coordinates student activities.

Primary Responsibilities:
1. Performs all duties expected of a classroom teacher, including, but not limited to, instruction of approved curriculum to students, development of lesson plans, and management of students and the classroom environment.
2. Works with other staff to develop, modify, and update curriculum.
3. Work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher to collect data and observations relevant to student progress.
4. Works with the designated Lead Teacher to address student behavior, contact County agencies, and communicate with parents.
5. Transports students to and from home or as designated by the program coordinator.
6. Completes vehicle logs, timesheets, and other required documents.
7. Communicates regularly with the student's home district staff, CESA staff, and parents.
8. Provides direct service to students as assigned.
Secondary Responsibilities:
1. Assists with the operation of the overall program and program facility.
2. Arrange for regular and preventative maintenance for their assigned vehicle.
3. Participates in professional development opportunities and all required meetings and trainings.
4. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Possesses a valid license for the position to which the employee is assigned through the Department of Public Instruction.
2. Possesses a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as determined by CESA 5.
3. Ability to facilitate meetings and/or present information in a group setting.
4. Ability to apply knowledge of student record keeping, principles, practices, and procedures.
5. Ability to apply in-depth knowledge of curriculum, assessment, and developmentally appropriate activities.
6. Ability to apply in-depth knowledge of current technology.
7. Ability to establish effective working relationships with other staff, other agencies, and the public.
8. Ability to analyze complicated special education needs & situations and provide sound advice and recommendations.
9. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including, but not limited to, moving swiftly to supervise students inside and outside during varying weather conditions, participating in physical activities with students, and being able to lift at least thirty pounds.
