The Merton Community School District seeks an exceptional and passionate primary school instructional assistant to join our team. 

 

About Us:

The Merton Community School District is committed to providing a nurturing and challenging educational environment for our students. We are a 4K-8th grade feeder district into Arrowhead Union High School (Hartland, WI) with two schools on one beautiful campus. We are navigating through a period of community growth and change, and are in a five-year strategic planning process. The District and Merton Intermediate School “Significantly Exceed Expectations” on the state’s Report Cards. Merton is located in Waukesha County, approximately 25 miles west of Milwaukee and 55 miles east of Madison.   

 

Merton Primary School is a vibrant school of approximately 560 students specifically designed to cater to the academic, social, and emotional development of young learners ranging from early childhood/four-year-old kindergarten to fourth grade. Merton Primary is more than just a school; it's a nurturing environment where children learn, grow, and form the foundation for a lifelong love of learning.

 

Responsibilities:

We are looking for a dedicated primary school special education instructional assistant who can bring creativity, resilience, and a passion for excellence to our team.  This individual would be working with a team of special educators and instructional assistants to meet the needs of students. There maybe general student supervision during recess and lunch times. The position is approximately 10:30 a.m - 4:00 p.m. during the student day. Additional professional development opportunities occur during non-student days to continue developing every support staff's skills and abilities.

 

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Love for children, with an appreciation for the joys and challenges that come with teaching children at this age.
  • Seeks a free exchange of ideas, who is willing to have difficult conversations in service of children, and who comes to the table with a solution-based disposition.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and seek out opportunities for mentorship and instructional coaching.
  • Openness to feedback and willingness to continuously improve strategies and professional practices.
  • Previous experience working with elementary school students is preferred but not required.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
