Cooperative Educational Service Agencies (CESAs) are designed to provide high-quality and innovative educational services to students and educators. There are 12 regional Cooperative Educational Service Agencies in Wisconsin. CESA 9 is located in Tomahawk, Wisconsin and serves 22 school districts in North Central Wisconsin. The Associate Director of School Improvement provides instructional leadership, coaching, and implementation support in the areas of literacy and ELA, curriculum development, assessment, data literacy, and Educator Effectiveness.  The literacy specialist will serve as a district reading specialist as per state statute 118.015 within districts upon request and help to meet emerging needs in response to Act 20 or around the science of Reading.

Performance Responsibilities:
  • Provide Literacy Coaching and networking opportunities in both the literacy and assessment areas for teachers, administrators, and other school personnel in the CESA 9 region.

  • Work collaboratively with district leadership, school personnel, Agency leadership, the Department of Public Instruction, and other partners to provide implementation support and support in the use of state summative assessments and formative assessment practices.

  • Plan, organize, and facilitate high-quality professional development and coaching in the areas of assessment, ELA, state standards, and curriculum development, including in-person, on-site, and utilization of web conferencing technology. 

  • Provide a supporting role in Title 1 services provided to districts in the CESA 9 region.

  • Understand and provide continuous professional learning around new and existing educational initiatives in literacy and other areas including educator effectiveness,  PI34, strategic assessment, and digital integration.

  • Demonstrate instructional leadership skills with both adults and students; possess the capacity to be self-directed, organized, and collaborative with staff members; and have the ability to research, develop, and deliver innovative professional development and coaching support.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Possess Wisconsin DPI educator license; Master’s Degree preferred

  • At least 5 years of professional experience, including teaching/administrative experience

  • 316 reading certification required; 317 license preferred

  • Passionate about improving education for all learners

  • Presenting/presentation experience in a variety of group sizes and settings

  • Self-directed learner; actively adds to his/her own knowledge and skill base

  • Ability to provide confidential coaching for performance improvement

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Apps for Education, and technology integration

  • Valid driver’s license and access to insured motor vehicle, or other timely access to private transportation, to facilitate assignments to school districts, meetings, or other off-site destinations

  • Such other qualifications as the CESA 9 Administrator and the CESA 9 Board of Control may deem appropriate

Physical Requirements: 

  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office and specialized equipment

  • Sit, kneel, stand, and walk for required periods

  • Bending, pushing, moving, and lifting objects up to 30 pounds

  • Reaching to retrieve and maintain files
