The Waterloo School District has a vacancy for a systems administrator. The position is full time and may require occasional evening and weekend hours. A qualified applicant should possess the following: A. Associate degree in computer systems, information technology, or similar area. B. CompTIA A+ Certification, CompTIA Network+ Certification, similar industry certification, or two years of experience maintaining computer network systems. C. Experience with current versions of server and end-user operating systems. D. Experience with Ethernet switching, IP routing, and IP addressing. E. Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace software. F. Experience with common directory service, device management, and email platforms. G. General knowledge of relational database software and concepts. H. Strong troubleshooting skills. I. Knowledge of industry standards and best practices. REPORTS TO: Director of Technology SUPERVISES: A. Information technology related internships, mentorships, and independent studies. POSITION GOALS: A. Provide support for the application and use of technology for classroom instruction and administrative functions in the District. B. Provide support for District network infrastructure and assume primary responsibility for selected District systems. C. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Student Helpdesk program. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Provide advanced support of technology problems and serve as a technology equipment resource to District staff. B. Oversee on-site and remote vendor support of District systems. C. Assist Director of Technology in developing staff in-service/training programs in the use of software and hardware. D. Assist with technology upgrade, expansion, renovation, and addition projects. E. Assist in the maintenance of an up-to-date inventory of District technology equipment and software. F. Maintain a current level of training in computer hardware and software. G. Supervise the use of voice, video, and data technology and report misuse. H. Implement technology equipment maintenance, repair, and service plan procedures. I. Assist in evaluation of hardware and software for purchase by the District. J. Work with Technology Support Specialist as needed to maintain helpdesk and service trouble tickets on day-to-day basis. K. Install and automate installation of computer software. L. Assist staff and students in the use of technology. M. Prepare end-of-life computer equipment for resale. N. Assist in determining budgeting and purchasing needs. O. Perform recruitment and training of mentorship students for the Student Helpdesk program. P. Keep office and work areas organized. Q. Perform such other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology and District Administrator.
