The Wauwatosa School District is seeking a full-time Long-term Substitute Occupational Therapist for the Wauwatosa School District. Position Title: Long-term Substitute Occupational Therapist Department/Location: Department of Teaching and Learning Job Classification: Professional Staff Reports to: Director of Special Education Supervises: N.A. Anticipated Term: February 17,2023 through April 7, 2023 Position Summary: The LT Substitute Occupational Therapist provides services to children with special education needs who require occupational therapy to benefit from their special education program. Qualifications: Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction license as an occupational therapist Valid Wisconsin driver’s license Ability to work in a collaborative manner with other staff members School-based occupational therapy experience Excellent communication skills Strong organizational skills Experience in working with students with multiple disabilities, including autism and intellectual disabilities Knowledge in applying Universal Design for Learning to improve access to general education curriculum and environment Essential Job Functions: Completes formalized functional, behavioral, and sensory assessments, and works collaboratively with IEP teams to determine if a student does have a disability and requires special education services and occupational therapy as a related service. Synthesizes evaluation results into a comprehensive written report that reflects students strengths and barriers to academic and social participation in school Collaborates with IEP teams to develop IEP’s or 504 plans for students with disabilities that include goals, supports, and services to ensure access to the general education environment and curriculum Provides occupational therapy to students to support their academic achievement and social participation in school Develops meaningful activities and teaches strategies designed to improve students’ access to school environment, classrooms, routines, and tasks Analyzes environments and activities to reduce barriers and ensure access Monitors and evaluates student work and progress based on tests, reports, work samples and observations Develops treatment plans to outline specific occupational therapy interventions that will assist students in meeting relevant goals and objectives Provides qualitative and quantitative feedback to students and parents Provides training to appropriate colleagues to carry out therapy goals through teaching specific strategies and providing tools and resources to assist with accessing environment and learning activities Participates in building, content-area, and grade-level meetings as required Serves as role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings Complies with the following requirement: The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District Performs other duties as may be assigned Essential Physical/Mental Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods, up to six hours in an eight­-hour day Ability to perform light physical work, frequently lifting up to ten pounds without assistance in an indoor setting Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person to provide information and assistance Ability to move throughout the building and from building to building Dexterity and hand/eye coordination necessary to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment such as fax machine, copier, etc. Hearing ability adequate to participate in numerous conversations throughout the day, both in person and over the telephone Ability to complete job activities in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm Ability to maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and accuracy
