QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must hold a Master’s Degree in guidance and counseling.
2. Must hold a current Wisconsin DPI license as a secondary counselor.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The Sheboygan Area School District is seeking a full-time Guidance Counselor to provide guidance and counseling services at Sheboygan North High School for a caseload of approximately 300 students in grades 9-12. Responsibilities include individual and small-group counseling, support of the Response to Intervention (RtI) and Positive Behavioral Intervention System (PBIS) implementation, academic and career planning, and scheduling. The candidate will be familiar with the Wisconsin Comprehensive School Model, the RtI Model, and PBIS. Preferred characteristics include the ability to work as a team member, strong communication skills, and the proven ability to effectively build relationships between school staff, students, and families. High school counseling experience is preferred.
Candidates must be willing to support the North High School mission. They must be willing to make decisions in the best interest of students and staff. They must have the ability to adapt, collaborate, and flourish in an ever-changing educational environment. Sheboygan North High School is seeking a student-centered and reflective counselor who is committed to providing students with academic, career, and social support. A desire to meet the needs of all students is paramount.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. To provide guidance and counseling services according to the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the Board of Education for grades 9-12.
2. To facilitate student involvement in North High School's educational programs.
3. To provide consulting services to parents and school staff as a student advocate.
4. To coordinate the student's educational program with the home, staff, and community agencies.
5. To conduct group and individual counseling sessions with students.
6. To provide individual and group counseling for students related to a career choice, course selection, and vocational or college entrance requirements.
7. To assist students or staff in crisis situations.
8. To review transcripts of new enrollees for appropriate placement.
9. To provide support for the transition from middle school to high school.
10. Other responsibilities as assigned by the department leader and/or principal.
