Full Time
The School District of Somerset has an immediate opening for a full-time District Nurse. This position will report to the Director of Pupil Services. The School Nurse (ADN/BSN) assists in coordinating the health services to students and employees within the District and ensures that all health services comply with Federal and State laws and standards. Qualifications: Candidates must possess a current registered nurse license through the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. A Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction school nursing license is preferred, or the ability to obtain a school nurse license. Current AED and CPR certification, and ability to maintain certifications during employment, are required. Qualified candidates should also have experience working with school age children, staff, parents/guardians and physicians. Responsibilities include: 1. Provide and administer direct care to address health and wellness concerns for both students and staff 2. Conducts school programs of immunization, physical examination, sight and hearing testing 3. Collaborate with students, parents, staff and stakeholders to provide education and awareness of health concerns and ongoing student needs 4. Oversee medication administration, health care procedures and development of health plans 5. Connect students and parents with outside community resources, and coordinate referrals to healthcare providers as necessary to address health concerns 6. Assess school environment to prevent injury and ensure safety and compliance 7. Provide ongoing health education at both individual and classroom levels 8. Provide chronic disease management, including maintenance of Individual Health Plans (IHP) and support of 504 Plans and Individual Education Plans (IEP) 9. Provide health advise and health-related training for staff in both individual and group settings 10. Update policies and practices to reflect emerging health needs 11. Oversee school district health-related compliance (i.e. infection control measures, contagious diseases, etc.) 12. Maintains up-to-date, cumulative health records on all students and advises on the modification of the educational program to meet the health needs of individual students
