The School District of Whitefish Bay is looking for a competent personal care assistant (Paraprofessional II = Special Education Para) to support physically and intellectually disabled students during their school day. The fulfillment and satisfaction that comes with helping others surpasses the challenges of this job. Personal Care Assistants (Paraprofessional II = Special Education Para) assist students with disabilities in personal care, mobility, communication needs, education and other school related activities.
Responsibilities:
- Support students who can't move on their own
- Use knowledge of a student's strengths and interests to encourage engagement in school learning and activities
- Use educational and assistive technology as determined by the IEP team
- Implement programming changes as determined by the IEP team
- Maintain established routines and procedures
- Promote choice and voice
- Support safe, equitable, positive, and supportive learning environments
- Establish and maintain a rapport with learners
- Adapt the physical environment to provide optimal learning opportunities
- Use universal precautions, cleanliness and organization to assist in maintaining a safe and healthy environment
- Assume the role of a paraprofessional on a collaborative team
- Participate in professional growth opportunities (CPI, med administration, mandatory reporting, bloodborne pathogens, G-tube training etc.)
- Protect health and safety
- Practice within the limits of the paraprofessional role
- Respect the roles of other staff
- Recognize the teacher as the instructional leader
- Practice with competence, integrity, and sound judgement
- Request and use feedback from supervising professionals
- Act quickly and responsibly in cases of emergency
The successful candidate will have DPI certification as a Special Education Program Aide or have required qualifications to attain certification and be responsible for application costs.
