The Wisconsin Virtual Academy, a public virtual charter school authorized by the McFarland School District and powered by K12 Inc, is looking for a dynamic, highly-motivated, organized candidate for a newly created position as a Substitute General Education Online Teacher for the 2021-22 School Year. This substitute teacher will support our school to meet the continued needs of our students while also supporting our talented and collaboratives teaching staff. Candidates must have a passion for helping all students be successful, must be adept at navigating multiple systems simultaneously and effectively, must be innovative and solution-oriented, and must be excited for the unique realities of an online schooling environment. Keen attention to detail, technology prowess, and advanced competency in fast-paced environments are critical entry-level qualifications. Deep interest and committment to building positive relationships and providing equitable educational access to all students is critical at WIVA Elementary, K-5. TEACHER POSITION OVERVIEW: Teachers are responsible for ensuring that students achieve mastery of learning objectives via an online learning platform. Teachers provide academic direct instruction and support, manage and evaluate the learning process, and respond to students’ individual needs. Teachers monitor student progress, and they work actively with students and parents to advance each child’s learning. Teachers - including substitute teachers - are also expected to be collaborative both internally and externally. This is primarily a work from home position with some potential travel opportunities. This is not a position of the McFarland School District and does not have district benefits. This position will be employed by Four Lakes Education Inc, the governing board to the Wisconsin Virtual Academy (WIVA). While fulltime teaching positions come with a competitive benefits package, the Substitute Teacher position is considered a part-time contracted postion and do not come with a benefits package or bonuses. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work that may be performed in this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required; other duties may be assigned. --Design and/or facilitate live synchronous instruction, manage the learning process, evaluate student performance, maintain courses, and plan lessons. --Collaborate with peers in order to provide a positive experience for students. --Support parents with student curricular and instructional issues. --Align curriculum and instruction to state standards. --Prioritize analysis of student data to provide data-driven instruction and support. --Participate in online meetings and training as scheduled. --Travel to and participate in Professional Development, in-person school events, state testing, and other events/meetings as needed. --Orient students to their courses, communicate requirements, set and enforce deadlines, maintain regular office hours, and conduct instructional sessions; --Understand how both diverse and unique characteristics of students and their families impact required support. --Grade student work, provide timely feedback, maintain a gradebook, alert administrators to concerns about student performance and progress, and maintain regular contact with students and families. --Develop positive and engaging relationships with students and parents. --Be available to students, parents, and staff from 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday - Friday or agreed upon hours. --Work from a professional home office environment, conducive to video and audio needs and a structured schedule. MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Appropriate State of Wisconsin licensure and certification. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: •Shared view of the virtual academy’s mission. •Strong content and subject-matter knowledge. •An ability to support and guide adults as well as students. •Knowledgeable in the application of databases utilized by K12/WIVA. •Strong written and verbal communication skills. •Organization and time-management skills. •Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.); Web proficiency. •Ability to pass required background check. •Experience using a student information system and/or other type of database (not required).
