JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing payroll including adjustments as needed, completing payroll-related tasks, annual/quarterly payroll reporting and maintaining records in accordance with Agency policy and local, state, and federal regulatory requirements. This position also has responsibility for other tasks, including but not limited to: employee benefit setup and tracking, federal time and effort record maintenance, unemployment reports, year-end liability reconciliations, Human Resources support, and other support tasks as needed. 

This position requires strong understanding of internal control best practices, high-level quality standards, accuracy, organization and confidentiality. It also works with a variety of internal and external customers. 

  • Bachelor’s Degree desired
  • Two to three years of experience running payroll
  • Certified Payroll Professional certification desired
  • Knowledge of Skyward highly desired
  • Knowledge of payroll practices, procedures, laws, and regulations
  • General accounting knowledge
  • Comfortable managing competing demands with the ability to prioritize and plan work activities.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness.  An eye for detail is a must.  
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Proven ability to cope with change and shift gears comfortably.  Ability to think on your feet. 
  • Intermediate to Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Google Suite is required. 
  • Experience with and/or understanding of electronic time keeping and absence tracking software systems 
  • Agile, demonstrating a growth mindset by leveraging flexibility, resilience, and change.
  • Highly collaborative, working with others to achieve a common goal in a way that promotes representation and participation by all.
  • Excellent verbal, non-verbal, and written communicator who expresses ideas and information with clarity and respect aligned to an intended audience and purpose.  
  • Thinks critically to analyze multiple perspectives, contexts, and data to creatively question, make connections, and evaluate options leading to reasonable conclusions with on-going reflection for future improvements.
  • Empathetically engages with others to understand and recognize their perspectives, experiences, and emotions.
