School Year (184 days/year), 7 hours/day, 8:15 am - 3:45 pm
Full Time
We have 1 opening at Evergreen, Mountain Bay, and Rothschild Elementary Schools. We have 2 openings at Weston Elementary.
 
WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Under the supervision of the special education teacher, works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher. 
  • Establishes and maintains a supportive and sympathetic relationship with the student(s) without fostering or encouraging intense, emotional involvement. 
  • Reads to, listens to, supervises, and participates with the student(s) during the school day. 
  • Provides safety and security for all students in and out of the classroom. 
  • Reinforces Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals for each student under the direction of the teacher. 
  • Mentors appropriate behavior and social skills with peers, classmates, and administrators through example, job training, and social stories. 
  • Regulates and disciplines inappropriate behavior and refusals to comply with directions/requests. 
  • Provides support for students’ daily living functions such as toileting, feeding/eating, dressing, mobility, etc. 
  • Constantly surveys the classroom to monitor students’ behaviors, moving to assist those who need help.
  • Transports students to and from therapy sites and communicates any behaviors the student is experiencing that may reflect on therapy session. 
  • Supports students getting to and from the health office for medications. 
  • Reviews students’ schedules each day to determine their events for that day. 
  • Assists in keeping students on task with academics either in groups and/or one-on-one. 
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
WHAT YOU’LL RECEIVE
  • $17.50 per hour
  • Paid time off including 11 paid time off days and 5 holidays (prorated from start date through June 3, 2027).

WHAT IT TAKES
  • Certification by the WI Department of Public Instruction as a Special Education Program Aide (License #O070) or ability to obtain licensure (only requirement is age 18 or older).
  • Highly qualified at a Title I schoolwide building (Rothschild and Weston), which requires:
    • An associate (or higher) degree OR
    • At least 48 post-secondary credits OR
    • Successful completion of paraprofessional assessments, with support from the District.
  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
  • Professional Assault Crisis (Pro-Act) and/or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training preferred.
  • Discrete Trial and Autism Training preferred.
  • Experience working with children or adults with special needs preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize and adapt to ever-changing students and situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to relate well with students and staff.
  • Willing to attend to the personal hygiene needs of students when necessary.
