The Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Technical Director of the Performing Arts Center.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor of Arts degree in Technical Theatre or equivalent preferred, though ample professional skills, knowledge, and experience may substitute for a degree.
2. Broad knowledge and experience of events, technical direction, carpentry, theatrical lighting, sound systems, and projections, including Dante Audio, Windows 11, Video Editing, and ETC Light Board. Knowledge of basic rigging skills is preferred.
3. Ability to meet deadlines and work both independently and cooperatively.
4. Exhibit strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with a customer-friendly approach.
5. Ability to work flexible, inconsistent hours, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
6. Interest and willingness to build a strong student internship program to support high school students' experiences around technical skills in performance arts.
7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

WRPS Performing Arts Director
JOB GOAL:
To manage the technical operations within the WRPS Performing Arts Center (PAC) facilities that include the Lincoln High School Performing Arts Center and the Wisconsin Rapids Area Middle School Auditorium and to assist in the development, installation, operation, maintenance, and training of inter-building and intra-building audio/video systems used by the School District.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1. Complete regularly assigned and self-directed duties on a timely basis.
2. Exhibit strong decision-making, time management, organizational, and communication skills with a customer-service approach.
3. Review, adhere to, and maintain district safety programs and policies relating to facility use.
4. Partner with all WRPS staff and volunteers to build a positive public image for the facility, school district, and community.
5. Demonstrate experience with computer programs and communication tools, including but not limited to:
a. Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
b. Dante Sound System and Lighting Board
c. Video-Editing
d. Explore the use of Artificial Intelligence within the WRPS PAC facilities.
6. Create internship and work-study experiences for high school students that provide more real-world, technical opportunities.
7. Perform other duties as assigned, which could be but are not limited to technical, marketing, teaching, or outreach opportunities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for the management of the technical elements of all events/rehearsals, which includes the hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of technical crews and the execution of event setup, operation, and strike/load-out.
2. Maintain equipment and ensure the safety of all operations such as piano tuning, sound rigging, fire curtain, curtain fireproofing, and lights in all WRPS PAC facilities.
3. Collaborate with school faculty, students, and external clients to support events within a safe and educational environment.
4. Oversee and maintain the Scene Shop and scene storage areas.
5. Communicate with rental clients, artists, and school groups regarding the technical needs for lighting, sound, video projection, and other technical elements.
6. Oversee technical sound and lighting design and execution of the high school theater productions, including training and mentoring of high school students during rehearsals and performances.
7. Supervise technicians and other support staff hired to work for scheduled events.
8. Coordinate logistics of event materials and equipment.
9 Create, update, and maintain technical documents.
10. Assist with office hours, meetings, and marketing media (creating videos/slides)to meet the needs of the WRPS PAC facilities.
11. Provide general facility maintenance and upkeep, offering a welcoming and clean environment for customers.
12. Plan and assist in summer maintenance of all WRPS PAC facilities in conjunction with the Director of Buildings and Grounds and/or other maintenance staff.
13. Recruit, train, and provide hands-on instruction and mentoring of student interns to support their development of technical theatre skills.
14. Develop, recruit, train, and maintain a pool of trained adult technicians that can be available for performances, events or other activities at the PAC.
15. Provide hands-on instruction and learning opportunities for our technicians in support of their development of technical theatre skills.
16. Determine the level of technical staffing needed for scheduled events and arrange technical staff for assistance.
OTHER DUTIES:
Perform other tasks and responsibilities related to the position as directed by the PAC Director, Director of Technology, or Superintendent.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The usual working environment for this position is an auditorium and may include all areas of the facility. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Duties include a mix of on-site labor, office work, and self-directed remote work. Candidates must be able to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50-100 pounds) and work at heights and in tight spaces.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. In an 8-hour period, must stand or walk 7 ½ hours (unrestricted).
2. Must use hands for grasping, pushing & pulling, fine manipulations.
3. Must be able to bend, twist, squat, climb (stairs & ladders), reach.
4. Must be able to frequently lift, pull, and push an excess of 50 pounds. Must be able to lift a maximum of 50 pounds above head.
5. Must be able to move AV, sound, and/or lighting equipment, etc.
6. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a year-round position with salary, fringe benefits, and other conditions established by the Board of Education. Modifications to the daily schedule to accommodate tasks performed beyond the school day are to be arranged with the PAC Director or the Director of Technology.

Performance of this job will be in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of non-union, non-administrative personnel.
