Full Time
The Portage Community School District is seeking a Special Education Teacher for John Muir Elementary school (grades 2-5) for the 2026-2027 school year.
Qualifications: Candidates should possess a current Wisconsin DPI license in Cross-Categorical Special Education (#1800), Emotional Behavioral Disabilities (#1830), Learning Disabilities (#1811) or Cognitive Disabilities (#1810) with willingness to obtain cross categorical licensing. Have the ability to co-teach and co-serve in the regular education environment.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Appropriate WI teaching license
• Course work in and experience teaching reading (preferred)
• Prefer teaching experience with elementary level students with learning disabilities, emotional behavioral disabilities, intellectual disabilities and autism.
• Experience with FBA/BIP; data analysis, and proactive behavior management
• Experience with formative and summative assessment; diagnostic evaluations & IEP development
• Ability to differentiate curriculum, instruction, and assessment
• Flexibility to work across content areas
• Excellent communication skills (written & verbal)
• Possess strong time management and organizational skills
• Experience with inclusive practices
• Prefer experience with Restorative Practices, Positive Behavioral Intervention System, Non- Violent Crisis Intervention
* Ability to work with and schedule paraprofessional staff.
