Position Details
Responsibilities:
-
To provide first aid to any injured or ill students and staff members
-
To notify parent/guardian of ill injured student and coordinate with parents to have student picked up from school if deemed necessary
-
To notify School Nurse of any new medical/health issues that arise to determine if a Health Care Plan needs to be established
-
To follow Health Care Plans established by the School Nurse and parents in order to provide correct care for the students with medical needs
-
Coordinate with School Nurse and teachers to over any health plans for students with health conditions in their class
-
To aid School Nurse in keeping the Health Conditions list accurate and up to date
-
To make and provide each grade level Health Condition picture cards for recess first aid bags
-
To make and provide each kitchen Health Condition picture cards of students with food allergies, diabetes and lactose intolerant
-
To provide a daily medication schedule and distribute medications to students on a daily basis and keep accurate logs documenting the time and date of when medication is given
-
To oversee/aid all diabetic students with treatments and maintaining daily diabetes logs
-
To obtain lunch carb menu from Food Service supervisor and create a carb count menu for diabetic students
-
To distribute as needed or Emergency medications and keep accurate logs documenting the time and date the medication was given
-
To notify parents if medications need to be refilled or have expired and need replacing
-
To prepare medications and first aid kits for field trips as well as attend any field trip when medical assistance is needed (diabetic students)

To prepare first aid bags for sports/coaches and notify coaches of any students with health conditions
-
To maintain confidential individual health records for all students
-
To perform lice checks on any students suspected of having lice as well as coordinate with teachers to do “health hair” checks of the entire classroom if a student is reported to have lice
-
To notify School nurse, staff and building/grounds supervisor of the presence of a communicable disease so the classrooms will be properly cleaned

To assist the School Nurse with hearing and vision screenings K-3 as well as for any student that a teacher requests to be done
-
To assist School Nurse with immunization records in accordance to the Wisconsin Immunization Requirements
-
To record and report accurate numbers of office visits, health conditions, medications kept at school and accident reports filed during the school year. All of these are logged into Skyward on a daily basis.

To assist School Nurse during registration with gathering any current or new health/medical information on students
-
To assist with secretarial duties in the event of a support staff member is absent
-
To assist the School Nurse with any other duties that are assigned
Qualifications:
-
High School diploma or GED equivalent with specialized course work in first aid.
-
Ability to handle confidential information and materials.
-
Ability to handle stressful situations.
-
Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public.
-
Willingness to obtain additional training to enhance job performance or meet changing job requirements.
-
Ability to perform essential functions of the position.
