Position Details
The Special Education Paraprofessional works collaboratively with teachers and staff to support students with diverse learning needs across a variety of educational settings. This position provides academic, behavioral, social-emotional, functional, and sensory support to students in one-to-one, small group, and classroom environments to help them achieve success both academically and personally.
Essential Functions:
- Support and reinforce instruction provided by special education and general education teachers.
- Assist students with academic, social-emotional, functional, and sensory needs.
- Implement student accommodations and modifications as outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Collect and maintain data to support student progress monitoring.
- Communicate student progress, performance, and observations with teachers and other members of the educational team.
- Supervise and support students in a variety of instructional and school settings.
- Assist with classroom management while promoting a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
- Foster positive relationships with students while encouraging independence, confidence, and success.
- Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and supervisors.
- Demonstrate an understanding of instructional content to effectively support student learning.
- Utilize technology to support instruction, communication, and student engagement.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Special Education Program Aide License or another valid DPI license or permit that qualifies them for this position. Applicants who do not currently hold the required license must be eligible to obtain one prior to employment. Previous experience working as a Special Education Paraprofessional or in a similar role is preferred but not required.

Experience
No prior experience is required. Experience working with students, particularly those with diverse learning needs, is preferred.
