The Shorewood School District is seeking a Real-Time Captionist/Transcriptionist to join Shorewood's Special Education & Student Support Services team. This support staff position will provide live transcription support during classes at Shorewood High School.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: 

  • Work with individual students to conduct and reinforce teacher-directed activities 

  • Provide academic support and curriculum modification as determined by student(s)’ IEP

  • Assist in the implementation of the student(s)’ IEP

  • Assist in operation and maintenance of assistive devices and adaptive equipment as needed

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, student records, parents, staff and any other school-related issues

  • Assume additional responsibilities as they are directed by the Director of Special Education & Student Services and/or Building Principal

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate competency in academic subject areas to assist students with instructional tasks

  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner through oral, written, and technological means

  • Work positively, effectively, and ethically with students, parents, and District personnel

  • Perform duties with awareness of all District requirements as well as Board and District policies and guidelines

  • Assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment 

  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability on daily schedule/routines 

  • Demonstrate willingness and ability to learn new skills in order to enhance job performance and value to the position, Special Education Department and the District.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND TRAINING):

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

  • For highly qualified status, applicants must be fully trained and certified through CART or C-Print, and must type at a minimum of 200 wpm

  • Other applicants must pass minimum assessment requirements for District support of required training for C-Print or Typewell.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach, carry, push  and or pull with hands and arms; and lift up to 20 pounds. Occasionally, an employee may need to physically intervene with disruptive students with the least amount of force necessary. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Generally the job requires a significant degree of walking or standing.

MENTAL DEMANDS: 

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information, and documents; analyze and solve non-routine and complex problems; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; work under intensive deadlines with frequent interruptions; and interact with school district staff, parents, students, the public and others encountered in the course of work, some of whom may be dissatisfied or verbally abusive/offensive individuals.
