Berlin Middle School (BMS) is looking for an energetic, dedicated, and innovative educator to join our staff.  Physical education and health are offered at all grade levels at Berlin Middle School and are seeking an individual who will build skill-based health and activity for a lifetime.  BMS believes physical education should focus on understanding activity and healthy body function, while developing a passion for what will help students continue to build healthy lifestyles.  The successful candidate would understand that teaching begins with relationships and that students are better suited for success when they have relevance in their learning.  BMS is committed to utilizing engaging strategies in every lesson to get students to talk about their learning.  

Berlin Middle School has an enrollment of approximately 250 students and focuses on engaging all learners with caring adults and support staff. The school offers a wide variety of opportunities for students to explore their interests and strengths through both curricular and extracurricular experiences. We focus on the whole child in academics so students are highly supported in the core academic areas, while allowing them to explore various electives from art, music, foreign language, physical education and health, and Project Lead the Way (PLTW).  We focus on the social-emotional development of adolescents and skills that will make them ready for their futures beyond the Berlin Area School District.

Berlin Middle School is one of three schools that make up the Berlin Area School District with all three schools on the same larger campus. Clay Lamberton Elementary (4K-5) is across the way with Berlin Middle School (6-8) and Berlin High School (9-12) sharing the same building. The District is a hub of activity for the greater Berlin community. The Berlin Area School District is composed of 14 municipalities, with the City of Berlin at the center. Berlin is a rural community with a population of 5,500 located approximately 25 minutes west of Oshkosh and 10 minutes north of Green Lake. The Fox River runs through the center of the historic Victorian downtown. Agriculture, health services, education, light industry and retail shops comprise Berlin’s economy.

The ideal candidate would be effective in the following areas:

• Design and implement a comprehensive physical education and health curriculum that promotes physical fitness, healthy lifestyles, and social-emotional well-being.

• Assess student progress through skill-based assessments in healthy and physical education, in addition to fitness assessments.

• Promote teamwork, collaboration, perseverance, and leadership through individual and group activities.

• Has or is willing to obtain lifeguard and swim instructor certification.

• Make authentic connections with students and partner with parents to maximize engagement.

• Collaborate with colleagues to share ideas and strategies that improve student outcomes. 

• Establish a safe and respectful learning environment for all students. 

• Maintain high expectations for students and self.

Requirements: Three years of experience preferred.

Salary, benefits, and length of contract:  This position works a 190-day contract with a salary not less than $47,512 and an excellent benefits package.
