The Berlin Area School District is searching for a passionate, talented, and student-focused teacher leader who will work closely with the Berlin Middle School principal and guidance counselor to provide proactive and responsive behavioral and social-emotional support for our middle school students. This exciting new position is an opportunity for a teacher or pupil services professional who is interested in developing their leadership abilities.
The successful student support teacher candidate will play a key role in fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students. This educator will work proactively with students, families, teachers, support staff, and administration to provide support when students exhibit challenging behaviors and will help develop and implement plans and strategies that promote student success. Additionally, the successful candidate will assist in strengthening home-school connections by meeting with parents, encouraging school attendance, and helping remove barriers to student engagement.
The ideal candidate for the position of student support teacher would be effective in the following areas:

Providing real-time support for students and teachers when challenging behaviors occur, helping to implement non-violent, de-escalation strategies and restorative practices.

Working closely with students to improve self-regulation, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.

Assisting the office staff and administration with attendance calls to families, gathering root cause information regarding attendance, and creating plans to improve student attendance.

Serving as a bridge between students, families, and school staff to create an inclusive and supportive school culture.

Participating in and possibly leading student intervention meetings and providing input regarding strategies to support student success.

Providing individual and small group social-emotional support and interventions.

Inputting, tracking, and analyzing student data related to behavior, interventions, and attendance trends to inform the effectiveness of interventions and school-wide practices.

Assisting in leading student success assemblies as well as creating lessons or activities for teachers and students in the area of student social-emotional development and positive school climate.

Serving as an LEA at IEP meetings as well as attending and supporting wrap-around meetings.

Berlin Middle School has an enrollment of approximately 250 students and focuses on engaging all learners with caring adults and support staff. The school offers a wide variety of opportunities for students to explore their interests and strengths through both curricular and extracurricular experiences. We focus on the whole child in academics so students are highly supported in the core academic areas, while allowing them to explore various electives from art, music, foreign language, physical education and health, and Project Lead the Way (PLTW). We focus on the social-emotional development of adolescents and skills that will make them ready for their futures beyond the Berlin Area School District.
Berlin Middle School is one of three schools that make up the Berlin Area School District with all three schools on the same larger campus. Clay Lamberton Elementary (4K-5) is across the way with Berlin Middle School (6-8) and Berlin High School (9-12) sharing the same building. The District is a hub of activity for the greater Berlin community. The Berlin Area School District is composed of 14 municipalities, with the City of Berlin at the center. Berlin is a rural community with a population of 5,500 located approximately 25 minutes west of Oshkosh and 10 minutes north of Green Lake. The Fox River runs through the center of the historic Victorian downtown. Agriculture, health services, education, light industry and retail shops comprise Berlin’s economy.
Salary, benefits, and length of contract: This position works a 190-day contract with a salary not less than $47,512 and an excellent benefits package. There is the possibility of additional days in the summer to assist the principal in planning school systems and staff development for additional contract days and pay.
