JOB TITLE: High School Special Education Teacher


CLASSIFICATION:  Professional Staff


JOB OBJECTIVE: The High School Education Teacher works with students receiving services under special education labels to ensure a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) within the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). They will collaborate with school-based special education case managers, general education teachers, the principal, special education assistants and the Director of Student Services to ensure that students receive an education tailored to their needs. They will also serve as IEP case managers.


REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Wisconsin Cross-Categorical teaching license is preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university

  • Experience with at-risk youth or students receiving special education services 

  • Ability and desire to connect classroom learning to the community and family

  • Display a positive, professional and proactive attitude in working with colleagues and supervisors


PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Delivery of instruction in the subject areas of reading, math, written language, science and/or social studies.

  • Manage instructional environment

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) with fidelity

  • Collaborate with special education and general education teachers to ensure that students receive a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment

  • Create daily lesson plans that are engaging and aligned with district essential learning outcomes.

  • Collaborate with Special Education Assistants and oversee their daily duties

  • Support programming within inclusive environments.

  • Grading and documentation of student progress.

  • Data analysis of student growth.

  • Differentiation within the classroom to meet the academic, social/emotional and behavioral needs of students

  • Development and Administration of formative and summative assessments to gauge student learning.

  • Administration of district wide assessments.

  • Understanding of social emotional development of students and how to support that within the classroom setting.

  • Collaboration with school colleagues, families, and community members to support the learning of all students.

  • Continued professional development to stay current with best practices in instruction and classroom management.

  • Participating within collaborative teams as part of our greater Professional Learning Community (PLC) efforts

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Supports students with disabilities in achieving successful transition to postsecondary education, employment, and independent living.

  • Develop and implement transition-focused IEPs.

  • Develop and supervise: job shadowing opportunities as well as paid/unpaid work experiences

  • Build partnerships with:

    • Local businesses

    • Community agencies

    • Vocational rehabilitation services

  • Conduct job coaching and site visits as needed.
