JOB TITLE: Special Education Teacher

 

CLASSIFICATION:  Professional Staff


JOB OBJECTIVE: The Platteville School District is looking for a Kindergarten Special Education Teacher at Neal Wilkins Early Learning Center. This position will  provide instruction and support to students receiving special education services at the Kindergarten level and may assume some case management duties for students who are in 4K on an as needed basis.


REPORTS TO: Dr. Maxwell Long, Director of Student Services


QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required. Wisconsin Licensure for Kindergarten and 4k Special Education preferred.


PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Deliver instruction in pre academic domains (ex. oral communication, color identification, number identification, letter identification, social-emotional development, etc.) 

  • Conduct assessments to determine eligibility for early childhood special education services

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) with fidelity

  • Collaborate with special education and general education teachers to ensure that students receive a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment

  • Collaborate with Special Education Assistants and oversee their daily duties

  • Support programming within inclusive environments.

  • Differentiate within the classroom to meet the academic, social/emotional and behavioral needs of students

  • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to gauge student learning.

  • Understand social emotional development of students and how to support that within the classroom setting.

  • Prioritize social-emotional learning goals in a classroom setting

  • Monitor student interactions to create a safe, respectful learning environment

  • Collaborate with grade level teacher teams and district staff as part of our greater Professional Learning Community (PLC) efforts

  • Maintain professional communications with parents and community

  • Attend periodic building and district after school events

  • Actively engage in building level goals

  • Engage in on-going professional development and learning 

  • Collaborate with school colleagues, families, and community members to support the learning of all students.

  • Continue professional development to stay current with best practices in instruction and classroom management.

  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain the confidentiality of records, discussions, and other correspondence regarding all school related matters.

  • Demonstrate the ability to assume responsibility for routine decisions in the absence of an immediate supervisor.

  • Demonstrate and support a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Other duties as assigned.
