Position Details
Under the direction of the Berlin Area School District (BASD) High School Athletic Director, the Boys' and Girls' Assistant Wrestling Coach is responsible for assisting in the organization, coordination, promotion, and management of a comprehensive wrestling program that is designed to meet the needs and interests of the school community. This individual will provide effective leadership to ensure a positive, cohesive program and will stress the importance of academic achievement. This individual will demonstrate a high degree of ethics, professionalism, and human relations and be a positive role model for all students.
Clay Lamberton Elementary (4K-5), Berlin Middle School (6-8), and Berlin High School (9-12) sit on the same campus and serve as a hub of activity for the greater Berlin community. The Berlin Area School District is composed of 14 municipalities, with the City of Berlin at the center. Berlin is a rural community with a population of 5,500 located approximately 20 minutes west of Oshkosh and 10 minutes north of Green Lake. The Fox River runs through the center of the historic Victorian downtown. Agriculture, health services, light industry and retail shops comprise Berlin’s economy.
This position will assist in the following responsibilities, tasks, and duties:

Facilitation of the wrestling program, which establishes a presence in the school and community.

Support multi-sport athletes.

Plan and implement the teaching of fundamentals, strategies, rules, and proper conditioning in wrestling.

A student-centered approach, which includes flexibility, is required.

Cooperate with the administration, fellow coaches and students to promote the best interests of the entire athletic program.

Ensure the safety of participants by inspecting facilities and equipment.

Ensure that adequate supervision is provided for all students involved in the program, including locker rooms and buses.

Teach sportsmanship, cooperation, work ethic and responsibility to one's team.

Assume responsibility for conduct of contestants in wrestling.

Implement appropriate procedures for handling injury situations; ensure the availability of a properly supplied first aid kit and emergency care cards at all times.

Communicate to all participants the policies of the team, local school, and School Board relating to school-sponsored activities.

Assist with public relations and publicity for the wrestling program.

Assist in communicating with parents/guardians.

Compile and maintain accurate individual and team performance records.

Participate in awards program(s) according to school procedure.

Enforce all rules of league and state associations.

Follow all other guidelines in the Berlin Area School District’s staff handbook.
