Berlin Area School District is looking for a passionate and enthusiastic choral director to join our team and lead our vocal music program for grades 6-12. With a strong commitment to the performing arts, Berlin High School and Berlin Middle School are seeking a leader to expand upon our established music programming and rich traditions. The right candidate will project a passion for music education and share the relentless belief that all students can be successful.

This position is responsible for overseeing middle school choirs, general music classes, high school choirs, high school musical productions, high school show choir, and other small ensembles as student/teacher interest warrants. This position works closely with the band directors at the middle school and high school levels to foster a collaborative fine arts department.

The ideal candidate for this position must be able to demonstrate knowledge and effectiveness in the following areas:

  • Develop and build positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, community members, and administrators with a consistent focus on meeting student needs.

  • Maintain high expectations for self and students as well as a safe, conducive environment for learning.

  • Inspire students to appreciate a wide variety of musical styles and progress in their musical skills and knowledge.

  • Arrange and produce musical performances that positively represent our schools and the talents of our students.

Berlin High School (9-12) and Berlin Middle School (6-8) are connected buildings, but operate as separate schools. The music space is shared between both buildings, alongside our state-of-the-art auditorium. Both schools have a long history rich in tradition and pride.

Berlin High School has a student body of approximately 415 students and has a breadth of opportunity with over 130 different course offerings to choose from in multiple disciplines, including career and technical education, fine arts, sciences, mathematics, languages, and college preparatory courses. Berlin High School offers the opportunity for students to earn over 70 university and technical school credits while in high school, in addition to Advanced Placement (AP) offerings. We believe that the high school experience extends outside the classroom, and with over 40 extracurricular clubs, groups and teams, our students have ample opportunity to be involved.

Berlin Middle School is a community of approximately 260 students that engages all learners with caring adults and a wide variety of opportunities where students get to explore their interests and strengths.  We focus on the whole child in academics so students are highly supported in the core academic areas, while allowing them to explore various electives from art, music, foreign language, physical education and health, and Project Lead the Way (PLTW).  We focus on the social emotional development of adolescents and skills that will make them ready for their futures beyond the Berlin Area School District.

Clay Lamberton Elementary (4K-5), Berlin Middle School (6-8), and Berlin High School sit on the same campus and serve as a hub of activity for the greater Berlin community. The Berlin Area School District comprises 14 municipalities, with the City of Berlin at the center.  Berlin is a rural community with a population of 5,500 located approximately 20 minutes west of Oshkosh and 10 minutes north of Green Lake. The Fox River runs through the center of the historic Victorian downtown. Agriculture, health services, light industry, and retail shops comprise Berlin’s economy.

This position works a 190-day contract with a salary based on experience, not less than $46,893, and has an excellent benefits package. An additional stipend is connected to this position for after-school hour choral events and extracurriculars such as musicals and/or plays, and advisor positions.

How to apply:  Apply by completing the WECAN application, attaching an updated cover letter and resume, and providing three letters of recommendation that are no more than two years old.  Copies of transcripts and licenses will be required prior to employment.

The Berlin Area School District is an equal opportunity employer and encourages individuals from diverse backgrounds to apply.
