The Darlington Community School District is excited to welcome a compassionate, skilled, and collaborative Special Education Teacher to our High School (Grades 9–12) team for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time position offers a meaningful opportunity to support adolescents with a wide range of abilities and learning needs within a cross-categorical service delivery model.

As a High School Special Education Teacher, you will support students across academic, functional, behavioral, social-emotional, and transition-related domains. This role includes providing instruction and support in general education classrooms, resource settings, and self-contained environments with modified curriculum, as appropriate to student needs. You will collaborate closely with fellow teachers, support staff, and related service providers to ensure students can access instruction, make progress toward IEP goals, and build skills necessary for success after high school.

In addition to supporting academic growth, this position emphasizes transition planning, self-advocacy, and independence, helping students prepare for postsecondary education, employment, and independent living. Instruction may occur through co-teaching, small-group instruction, individualized support, and structured study hall or intervention settings.

We are seeking an educator who values collaboration, builds strong relationships with students and families, and is committed to inclusive practices and equity for all learners.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate:

  • Experience teaching and supporting students in general education classrooms as well as self-contained settings with modified curriculum

  • Successful experience working with diverse learners and implementing differentiated instruction and effective teaching strategies

  • Knowledge of special education evaluations, eligibility determinations, and the IEP process

  • Understanding of transition plans and processes, including postsecondary goals and coordinated services

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, support staff, and related service providers in inclusive, resource, and self-contained settings

  • Familiarity with functional behavior assessments (FBAs), behavior intervention plans (BIPs), and data-driven instructional practices

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills

  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and families

  • Commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of student records and information

  • A flexible, student-centered, and team-oriented mindset

  • A strong belief in equity, inclusion, and the potential of every learner
