Action Research Community High School is seeking founding Core Advisors to help launch Milwaukee's first Gold Standard project-based learning high school. Opening Fall 2026, ARCHS will serve 80 students in grades 9-10 on Milwaukee's South Side, growing to 160 students in grades 9-12 at capacity.

As a founding educator, you will co-design curriculum, culture, and systems from the ground up. Core Advisors serve as the primary adult advocate for an advisory of 20 students while teaching content classes (maximum 22 students) in mixed-grade configurations.

Our model uses Gold Standard PBL (Buck Institute/PBL Works), restorative justice practices, and bilingual family engagement to create a school where students tackle authentic problems and present to real audiences.

Key Responsibilities

Design and facilitate Gold Standard project-based learning experiences aligned to Wisconsin State Standards

Serve as primary advisor for 20 students, supporting academic and social-emotional growth

Guide student-driven independent projects, including research at Milwaukee Public Library and community partnerships

Implement restorative justice practices and maintain a culture grounded in our IDEAS values

Collaborate with founding team to develop school-wide systems, traditions, and curriculum

Participate in summer and ongoing professional development (PBL Works training, curriculum design)

Required Qualifications

Valid Wisconsin teaching license (or actively progressing toward licensure through an accredited institution)

Minimum 3 years successful classroom teaching experience

Demonstrated commitment to project-based, student-centered instruction

Preferred Qualifications

      5+ years classroom experience

Bilingual Spanish-English proficiency (for effective engagement with our predominantly Latino community)

Prior experience with PBL, inquiry-based learning, or competency-based assessment

Experience with restorative justice or restorative practices

Connection to Milwaukee's South Side community

Benefits

      Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) enrollment

Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance

4 weeks paid vacation + sick leave

      85 minutes daily planning time

Gold Standard PBL training through PBL Works

      Founding team leadership opportunity

Application Instructions

Submit resume, cover letter, and three professional references through WECAN. In your cover letter, please address: (1) your experience with project-based or inquiry-driven instruction, and (2) why you want to help build a new school rather than join an established one.

Equal Opportunity Statement

ARCHS is committed to building a diverse team that reflects the community we serve. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who identify as Latino, bilingual, and/or from Milwaukee's South Side.
