Position Details
Action Research Community High School is seeking founding Core Advisors to help launch Milwaukee's first Gold Standard project-based learning high school. Opening Fall 2026, ARCHS will serve 80 students in grades 9-10 on Milwaukee's South Side, growing to 160 students in grades 9-12 at capacity.
As a founding educator, you will co-design curriculum, culture, and systems from the ground up. Core Advisors serve as the primary adult advocate for an advisory of 20 students while teaching content classes (maximum 22 students) in mixed-grade configurations.
Our model uses Gold Standard PBL (Buck Institute/PBL Works), restorative justice practices, and bilingual family engagement to create a school where students tackle authentic problems and present to real audiences.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and facilitate Gold Standard project-based learning experiences aligned to Wisconsin State Standards
• Serve as primary advisor for 20 students, supporting academic and social-emotional growth
• Guide student-driven independent projects, including research at Milwaukee Public Library and community partnerships
• Implement restorative justice practices and maintain a culture grounded in our IDEAS values
• Collaborate with founding team to develop school-wide systems, traditions, and curriculum
• Participate in summer and ongoing professional development (PBL Works training, curriculum design)
Required Qualifications
• Valid Wisconsin teaching license (or actively progressing toward licensure through an accredited institution)
• Minimum 3 years successful classroom teaching experience
• Demonstrated commitment to project-based, student-centered instruction
Preferred Qualifications
• 5+ years classroom experience
• Bilingual Spanish-English proficiency (for effective engagement with our predominantly Latino community)
• Prior experience with PBL, inquiry-based learning, or competency-based assessment
• Experience with restorative justice or restorative practices
• Connection to Milwaukee's South Side community
