POSITION OVERVIEW

Indian Community School, Inc. is seeking a qualified 2nd Grade Elementary Teacher (1.0 FTE).  A successful teacher in this position will ensure a high-quality teaching and learning environment that utilizes best practices to support students. The academic programming at ICS is offered in an equitable, multicultural setting and teaches all children to think deeply, critically, and creatively.  The ideal candidate will possess a strong background, knowledge, and skills that support a positive, engaging learning environment by demonstrating the following:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Knowledge with primary school-aged children.
  • Knowledge in understanding the Wisconsin Early Learning Academic Standards and Common Core State Standards.
  • Utilize formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction and provide feedback toward student growth and improvement.
  • Develop and implement authentic assessments of student learning to support various learning styles and student voice and choice.
  • Strong background in science-based early literacy instruction.
  • Collaborate with school staff to integrate American Indian culture, language, traditions, and the Seven Sacred Gifts into the curriculum and educational programming 
  • Develop effective lessons, units, and assessments that are aligned to ICS Learning Targets. 
  • Knowledge or experience in inquiry-based practices such as Project-Based Learning.
  • Incorporate outdoor learning environments into lessons and units.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies that focus on building positive relationships with students. 
  • Work collaboratively and positively with the full-time teaching assistant to meet the needs of all students.
  • Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Effectively communicate with families related to the learning environment and progress of individual students.
  • Actively participate in learning about American Indian culture, language, traditions, and the Seven Sacred Gifts.
  • Integrate the Our Ways Teaching and Learning Framework™ into academic content areas.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with students, families, staff, and administration that are positive, constructive, and focused on team collaboration.
  • Comply with State Laws in reporting suspected child abuse and neglect.
  • Demonstration of strong organization, time-management, and oral, written, technical, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the School Administrator.
QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Possess, or be eligible for WI DPI teaching licenses (Early Childhood, Elementary/Middle)
  • Successful teaching experience in urban school(s) preferred 
  • Acceptable background check and drug screen
