Position Overview:
Join our team as a Special Education Paraprofessional in a flexible coverage role, providing consistent support for the academic, behavioral, and functional needs of students with disabilities. This role ensures continuity of instruction and support across multiple school settings by implementing IEP-based strategies and promoting student success.
 
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide instructional and non-instructional support to students in classrooms with absent or reassigned staff, including short-term, long-term, or day-to-day coverage across Eagle River Elementary School, SOAR High School, Northland Pines Middle & HIgh School, and the Connect Learning Center as needed.

  • Reinforce academic and functional skills introduced by certified staff members

  • Work with students individually or in small groups to support learning goals

  • Assist in the implementation of accommodations and modifications as outlined in the student’s IEP

  • Support students in managing behavior using strategies from their IEPs and/or behavior intervention plans

  • Promote positive social interactions and support self-regulation development

  • Assist with transitions and engagement in daily routines

  • Collect and record data on student performance, behavior, and IEP goal progress as directed

  • Provide observational feedback to licensed staff to inform instruction and support learning

  • Maintain confidentiality of student information in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA

  • Help prepare and organize classroom materials and instructional supports

  • Encourage and facilitate student independence, problem-solving, and self-advocacy

  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff by participating in team meetings and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) when appropriate to learn strategies, share observations, and support student success

Required Qualifications:

  • To be considered “highly qualified” in alignment with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction requirements, candidates must:

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Meet one of the following:

    • Possess an associate degree or higher, or

    • Have completed at least 48 semester credits at an institution of higher education, or

    • Have passed a formal assessment that demonstrates knowledge and ability to assist in reading, writing, and math instruction (e.g., ACT WorkKeys, ParaPro Asessment)

  • Hold or be eligible to obtain a Wisconsin Special Education Program Aide License (#0070)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children, particularly in educational or caregiving settings

  • Ability to adapt quickly to different classrooms, grade levels, and student needs

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, patience, and professionalism

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple staff members across schools and programs
