The General Education Paraprofessional supports classroom teachers and students in an elementary school setting by assisting with instruction, classroom management, and other educational tasks. The paraprofessional works under the direct supervision of licensed staff to help create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that supports student growth and achievement.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructional support to individuals and small groups of students as directed by the classroom teacher.

  • Assist with classroom management and behavior support strategies.

  • Supervise students in a variety of settings including the classroom, lunchroom, playground, and during transitions.

  • Support students with completing assignments, projects, and activities.

  • Prepare and organize instructional materials and resources.

  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the teacher.

  • Assist in other parts of the building when needed (serving lunch, supporting in the library, etc.)

  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all school district policies and procedures.

  • Participate in required training sessions and professional development.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher or school administration.

Working Conditions:

  • School-based environment.

  • Monday–Friday schedule aligned with the school calendar. Full Time or Part Time options (Full time would be 7:30-3:45 Monday-Friday; Part Time would be minimally 7:30-12:00 Tuesday and Thursday).

  • May require occasional participation in school events outside of normal hours.

The following are preferred:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).

  • Associate’s degree, or completion of 60 college credits, or passing score on a state-approved paraprofessional exam (may be required based on district or state regulations).

  • Experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, or kneel for extended periods.

  • Capable of performing duties both indoors and outdoors.
