Part Time
Parkview School District is seeking an Instructional Assistant to work with Elementary students (grades 4K-5). Prefer, but not required, candidates with an Associate degree and experience working with elementary age children.
This is a 9-month (school year) position. The work hours will be between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. (Not to exceed 32 hours per week).
Interested and qualified candidates should include a Letter of Interest, Résumé and (2) Letters of Recommendation.
- Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to work independently
- Computer skills
- Organizational skills
- Knowledge of basic grammar and writing mechanics
- Knowledge of basic mathematics concepts and operations
- Ability to work with students and staff in a friendly and constructive manner
- Ability to supervise students in the classroom, lunchroom, and playground environments.
- Ability to problem solve
Education & Training
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, social work, or related field preferred.
- Training or coursework in child development, special education, or behavioral support.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care and social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or other de-escalation/restraint training preferred or willingness to obtain.
Skills & Knowledge
- Understanding of child and adolescent development, including emotional and behavioral regulation.
- Knowledge of positive behavior intervention and supports (PBIS) and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).
- Ability to implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) under teacher or specialist guidance.
- Strong communication skills to work with students, teachers, and families.
- Ability to model calm, respectful, and appropriate behavior in all situations.
- Basic computer and documentation skills (e.g., logging incidents, behavior tracking).
- Physical ability to assist in crisis intervention if needed.
Experience
- Prior experience working with children in educational, childcare, or therapeutic settings.
- Experience supporting students with disabilities, emotional/behavioral needs, or mental health challenges is highly valued.
- Background working collaboratively with teachers, school psychologists, counselors, or social workers.
