The School District of La Crosse is accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Speech & Language Teacher Assistant beginning in the 2025-2026 school year.  Projected start date:  As soon as possible.

This is a certified position. Certified Teacher Assistant positions require a Special Education Program Aide License from the Department of Public Instruction ($100.00 expense to employee with reimbursement by the district once approved.)

Position Overview:
We are seeking dedicated and organized Teacher Assistants to support elementary students receiving virtual speech therapy services. This position plays a key role in ensuring students have a positive and productive virtual therapy experience by assisting with scheduling, technology setup, and engagement during sessions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of education beyond high school required.

  • Certified Teacher Assistant positions require a Special Education Program Aide License from the Department of Public Instruction ($100.00 expense to employee.)

  • Experience with students with special education needs.

  • Certification in adult/child CPR and First Aid required - will train to upgrade skills if needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain the therapy schedule for assigned students.

  • Escort students to and from the designated virtual therapy room.

  • Assist students with logging into the virtual therapy platform and troubleshooting basic technical issues.

  • Facilitate active engagement between students and the virtual speech therapist during sessions.

  • Follow directions and instructions provided by the virtual speech therapist to support therapy goals.

  • Monitor student behavior and provide encouragement and support as needed.

  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure a safe, supportive environment for students.

  • Assists individual students or small groups to reinforce learning activities

  • Assists with the supervision of students during classroom and other activities including field trips.

  • Carry out individualized areas of IEP's and behavior plans as developed and directed by teacher.

  • Help with other generalized classroom tasks as assigned.

This is a certified position. Certified Teacher Assistant positions require a Special Education Program Aide License from the Department of Public Instruction, which the District will reimburse.

Required qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years of education beyond high school or 48 post high school credits.
• In lieu of post high school education, successful completion of a proficiency test administered by the District is required.
• Actual employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a Job Specific Screening.
