Job Posting: Assistant Cook Positions Available
The School District is excited to announce openings for two Assistant Cook positions: one at the High School (grades 9-12) and one at the Middle School (grades 5-8). If you have a preference for either location, please indicate this in your cover letter.
The Assistant Cook works closely with the Lead Cook and other school nutrition assistants to prepare and serve lunch meals following National School Lunch Program (NSLP) guidelines. Key responsibilities include maintaining food safety, providing customer service at the point-of-sale computer, and supporting team operations by covering for other assistants when necessary or assisting in other production areas as needed. Additional duties include dishwashing, kitchen cleaning and sanitation, and unloading and storing food inventory.

Available Positions:
- 1-3 hour/day positions: Approximately 10:15 am - 1:15 pm (High School)
Summary of Essential Job Functions
- Demonstrate effective customer service and enjoy working with students to create a welcoming lunch environment.
- Promote the school food service program positively and relate well to young customers.
- Efficiently operate computer software programs – Windows and Internet-based.
- Accurately enter student account information at the point-of-sale entry.
- Visualize and account for meal components on lunch trays quickly and accurately.
- Follow oral and written directions, and communicate efficiently with staff, students, and supervisors.
- Knowledge of health codes and sanitation is a plus.
- Perform mathematical calculations related to production amounts and portion sizes.
- Exhibit strong communication skills and be self-driven and independent.
- Be flexible and able to respond to changes in routine.
- Organize and complete tasks within time constraints.
- Assist in all areas of food service operation as assigned to meet changing student/customer needs.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Serv Safe Certified (desirable) and at least 1 year of experience in food service (District will train)
Abilities Required:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand and/or walk for the entire work shift.
- Reach/extend up to shoulder height for food pans in ovens or on shelving.
- Bend/crouch for items in storage and for cleaning of equipment.
- Grasp serving utensils and perform repetitive motions on the serving line for up to 1 hour.
- Completion and clearance of Back Safety & Lifting Screening.
- Ability to work in a fun and fast-paced environment.
