St. Joseph Catholic Academy is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to serve as a part-time Elementary School Librarian and Recess Supervisor. This dual-role position supports the school’s literacy goals by managing the library and fostering a love of reading, while also ensuring student safety and engagement during outdoor recess times.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Library (Approximately 60% of the role)

  • Maintain an organized, welcoming, and student-centered library environment.

  • Assist students and teachers in locating, selecting, and checking out library materials.

  • Promote literacy through read-alouds, book talks, and seasonal displays.

  • Manage inventory, catalog books, and oversee circulation systems.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support reading initiatives and classroom needs.

  • Monitor and maintain library materials, including shelving, repairs, and weeding outdated content.

Recess Supervision (Approximately 40% of the role)

  • Supervise students during recess to ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful play environment.

  • Encourage positive social interactions and conflict resolution among students.

  • Monitor and report any safety concerns, behavioral incidents, or injuries to appropriate staff.

  • Assist in setting up and organizing recess equipment and activities.

Schedule & Hours:

This is a part-time position, approximately 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday during the school year. Exact schedule to be determined based on school needs.

 

 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Experience working with elementary-aged children in a school, library, or childcare setting.

  • Familiarity with children’s literature and basic library operations.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage groups of children with patience and authority.

  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
