Long-Term Substitute - 5th/6th Grade Functional Classroom - Intermediate School
West De Pere Intermediate School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Long-Term Substitute for our 5th and 6th-grade Functional Classroom. This position is vital to providing consistent support for our high-needs students and will commence around December for approximately 12 weeks. Valid WI DPI certification required.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide direct instruction and support to 5th and 6th-grade students in a self-contained functional classroom setting.
• Manage and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavioral intervention plans (BIPs).
• Collaborate effectively with adult support staff to ensure continuous student supervision and assistance.
• Address the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of students, including potential bathrooming needs.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment.
• Communicate regularly with the special education team, parents, and other relevant school personnel.
Required Qualifications:
• Valid Wisconsin teaching license (or eligibility for licensure) is preferred. Candidates with a strong background in education or related fields will be considered.
• Ability to work effectively with students with diverse learning needs and challenging behaviors.
• Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support students who require individualized approaches to learning.
• Ability to adapt instruction and strategies to meet the unique needs of each student.
• Willingness to assist with personal care needs, including bathrooming, as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience working in a special education setting, particularly with students in functional or self-contained classrooms.
• Experience with behavior management techniques and de-escalation strategies.
• Familiarity with IEP implementation and progress monitoring.
