Position Details
Job Overview:
The Theater Director is responsible for developing and leading the school’s theater arts program. This includes planning, directing, and producing school theater productions; and inspiring students in the dramatic arts. The Theater Director fosters creativity, collaboration, and appreciation for the performing arts in a safe and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Production & Direction:

Select, plan, and direct at least one major theatrical production per academic year (e.g., play, musical, student showcase).

Oversee all aspects of production including casting, rehearsals, costumes, set design, lighting, sound, and stage management.

Collaborate with technical staff, parent volunteers, and other faculty members.

Manage the production budget.
Student Engagement & Development:

Mentor and support students of varying experience levels and backgrounds.

Encourage student participation in school productions and theater activities.

Create opportunities for student leadership in technical and creative aspects of productions.
Program Administration:

Coordinate schedules, facilities, and equipment needed for rehearsals and performances.

Promote productions through school and community channels.

Ensure all school policies, including safety procedures, are followed during rehearsals and performances.
Work Environment:

Frequent evening and weekend hours during production season.

Involves physical activity, including lifting, set building, and working in theater facilities.
Required:

Prior experience in Theater, Performing Arts, or related field.

Prior experience directing or assisting theatrical productions.

Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Preferred:

Experience working with school-aged students.

Technical theater knowledge (lighting, sound, costumes, set construction)
