Position Details
The Learning Resource Specialist works individually and in small groups with students to help them develop (in alignment with Lancer Values) organizational strategies, study skills, and test taking competencies that will promote academic achievement in their course work at St. Joseph Catholic Academy. Additionally, the Learning Resource Specialist includes supplementary resource materials dictated by student need, particularly providing direct instruction and guidance to enhance students’ reading comprehension and written expression supported by efficient and appropriate use of internet sites, software, eTexts, and student-level databases to assist students in successful learning, effective collaboration, inquiry and research.
Primary Responsibilities:
- · Fully participate and implement the Lap Top training and teaching methodology in the classroom.
- · Participate in all in-services, including One-on-One Lap Top in-services and other professional development and faith formation in-services.
- · Assist students daily towards independence in meeting course expectations and assessments which may be modified only as prescribed in written documentation by qualified health professionals in accordance with ACT criteria for students with special needs.
- · Communicate readily with parents/guardians. Demonstrate genuine positive regard for students and their family’s concerns, questions, and needs.
- · Be proactive in counseling and modeling the Lancer Value System.
- · Maintain professional confidentiality regarding documentation of needs, evaluation reports and other personal student information, as required by law.
- · Collaborate with students, parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, administrators, and other professionals in addressing students’ personalized learning needs.
- · Participate in weekly Administrative-Guidance meetings to help plan for student needs.
- · Plan, coordinate and record RTI (Response to Interventions) data to support students, classroom teachers, parents/guardians in personalizing student educational plans and/or making
referrals, when needed.
- · Participate in staffing and IEP (Individualized Education Program) conferences.
- · Develop and actively maintain an effective professional referral base to assist in guiding students and their families towards optimizing academic support and post-secondary planning
(e.g., Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, State of Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, etc.).
- · Coordinate and plan for the administration of student ACT Special Testing, as requested by students and their parents/guardians.
- · Coordinate and collaboratively plan for appropriate use of Title I funding.
- · Share IEPs, 504 Plans and evaluation reports with guidance counselors, classroom teachers, and administrators, as appropriate for student academic planning.
- · Assist in admissions decisions, when asked by administration.
- · Full-time and part-time faculty are expected to participate in school-related activities, which may not fall on one of the 190-contact days. Examples of such activities are (not limited to): Open House dates, Graduation Exercises, New Student Registration Nights, Placement Testing Dates, and Parent-Teacher Conferences.
- · Faculty Meetings/Department Meetings/Professional Development workshops, and Faith Formation workshops are usually scheduled on Wednesday (student early release days.) All full- and part-time staff are required to attend unless excused personally by the principal.
- · Teachers are expected to be in the building/classroom by 7:15am to begin their workday and are expected to remain in the building/classroom until 3:30p.m. each day to offer their services for additional student help, parent conferences, and other meetings as needed.
- · Teachers are supervisors and must always be present in their classroom or other areas where the students assigned to them are located. Teachers may leave their area of responsibility only in an emergency after contacting a responsible adult to supervise the students during the teacher’s absence.
- · Coordinate, plan, and teach the summer credit recovery program from the second week of June until the first week of August or until everyone has completed their programs.
- · All other duties as assigned by the Academy President and/or Principal
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Teaching- Master's Degree Preferred
- State certification: Reading, Alternative Education, Special Education
- Knowledge of SNSP/WPCP programs preferred
